WHAT IS THE CARTRIA® PAYLESS USED CAR LEASE?

A USED CAR LEASE IS A DIFFERENT WAY TO DRIVE A CAR.

Most people think there are only two ways to get a used car. Pay cash, or finance the full price of the car.

A used car lease is different. It is another important option that is not normally offered by used car dealers.

With a lease, you drive an approved vehicle for a set period of time, with a set mileage plan, a set monthly payment, and a written lease agreement.

You are not setting up a long-term loan to pay off the entire car.

That is the main difference.

Traditional financing

Built around buying the whole vehicle.

With traditional financing, your payment is usually based on buying the whole vehicle over time.

Used car lease

Built around driving for a set term.

With a lease, your payment is based on driving the vehicle during the lease term. The vehicle is expected to still have value at the end of the lease. That remaining value is one reason the monthly payment can be lower.

The full price is not the whole story.

If a vehicle is $30,000 and is expected to be worth $18,000 at the end of the lease, the lease is not built the same way as a loan that pays off the full $30,000.

The lease focuses on the time you use the vehicle, the mileage plan, the expected vehicle value, also called the residual value, fees, and taxes.

That difference can create a lower monthly payment than traditional used car financing.

At the end, you return the vehicle.

At the end of the lease, you return the vehicle instead of continuing payments to own it. This is called a closed-end lease.

You are responsible for the car during the lease term, including your lease payment, mileage, and vehicle condition.
